Amul Announces Price Reduction for One-Litre Milk Packs
In a significant move to encourage the purchase of larger milk packs, the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), known for its Amul brand, has announced a price cut of Re 1 per litre for its one-litre milk packs across India. This strategic decision was confirmed by GCMMF managing director Jayen Mehta.
Impact on Prices: In Delhi, the price of Amul Gold milk has been adjusted to Rs 67 from Rs 68 per litre, and Amul Taaza will now cost Rs 55, down from Rs 56 per litre.
GCMMF's Financial Growth and Market Position
GCMMF reported an 8% increase in turnover, reaching Rs 59,445 crore in the 2023-24 financial year. The cooperative is optimistic about maintaining double-digit revenue growth this fiscal year, driven by strong demand for its dairy products. Handling an average of 310 lakh litres of milk per day last financial year, GCMMF has a total annual milk processing capacity of approximately 500 lakh litres.
Global Recognition and Farmer Empowerment
With its roots in Gujarat, GCMMF stands as the world's largest farmer-owned dairy cooperative, representing 36 lakh farmers from 18,600 villages. The cooperative’s 18 member unions procure around 300 lakh litres of milk daily. GCMMF has also secured its position as a global dairy leader, ranking 8th among the top 20 dairy companies worldwide in milk processing, according to the International Farm Comparison Network (IFCN).
