Cleveland Fed President Hammack Advocates for Patience on Further Rate Cuts Amid Inflation Concerns

Fed's Stance on Rate Cuts

In a recent interview with the Wall Street Journal, Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland President Beth Hammack emphasized the need for patience regarding further interest rate cuts. Hammack highlighted ongoing concerns with inflation and the necessity to address these issues before making additional adjustments to the interest rates.

Inflation and Rate-of-Change Concerns

"We still have an inflation problem. We still have a rate-of-change problem that we need to address," Hammack stated. She acknowledged the significant progress made but stressed the importance of continuing efforts to fully resolve these challenges.

December Monetary Policy Meeting

Hammack also revealed her decision to vote against lowering rates at the Fed's December monetary policy meeting, contrary to market expectations. She argued that market pricing alone is an insufficient rationale for such decisions, underscoring her cautious approach to monetary policy adjustments.
