Singapore's Cost-of-Living Support Scheme: Over 60% of Households Secure $220 Vouchers

Widespread Adoption of CDC Vouchers

In a significant uptake of the cost-of-living support scheme, more than 800,000 Singaporean households have claimed $220 vouchers. This initiative, as reported by The Straits Times, was highlighted in a Facebook post by Low Yen Ling, Singapore’s Senior Minister of State for Culture, Community and Youth, and Trade and Industry.

Support During Challenging Times

"The CDC Vouchers are proving to be a boon as we step into the new year, with the commencement of the school term and the Lunar New Year festivities approaching," stated Minister Low. The vouchers, part of the sixth distribution phase launched last Friday, aim to alleviate living costs for Singaporean families and bolster hawkers and heartland merchants affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Utilization and Validity

These vouchers, valid until December 31, 2025, offer flexibility with half redeemable at participating hawker stalls and heartland merchants, and the other half at supermarkets, as per CNA reports. The scheme saw two distributions in 2024, with vouchers worth S$500 in January and S$300 in June.

Impact and Donation Options

Last year, approximately 1.3 million households claimed these vouchers, with expenditures totaling S$1.008 billion. Half of this amount was utilized at hawkers and heartland merchants, while the remainder was spent at supermarkets. Minister Low also mentioned that unredeemed vouchers from 2024, though expired, can still be donated to charities until January 31, 2025.
