Unprecedented Demand for Trucking Services
Transporters and truckers are experiencing a significant surge in business, with up to a 40% increase in trucking activity, as the Maha Kumbh Mela approaches. The Shriram Mobility Report highlights a 30-40% spike in trucking to Prayagraj, driven by the preparations for this grand event from January 13 to February 26.
Sharp Increase in Truck Rentals
According to industry experts, there's been a nearly 73% jump in truck rentals on the key Delhi-NCR to Prayagraj route, with other northern routes also seeing a sharp increase. Y S Chakravarti, MD & CEO of Shriram Finance, notes, "The upcoming Maha Kumbh Mela is driving a surge in trucking demand, though restrictions during the event may temper this momentum."
Impact on Various Sectors
The demand surge is not just limited to logistics. The biggest increases in truck load are seen in FMCG, fruits and vegetables, textiles, and even petro products. SP Singh, a senior fellow at the Indian Foundation of Transport Research & Training, mentions that oil companies have already hired high-capacity trucks to move CNG to Prayagraj, as all buses and trucks operating within the city are CNG vehicles.
