Recent trials of the Vande Bharat sleeper train have demonstrated its capability to reach 180 kilometres per hour. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw shared a video showcasing this remarkable achievement, highlighting the train's potential to revolutionize long-distance travel in India.

In the video, a nearly full glass of water placed beside a mobile phone inside the train remains steady, illustrating the journey's smoothness even at high speeds. These trials, concluding on January 2, 2025, were conducted with the train fully loaded, reaching its maximum speed of 180 kmph on the Kota to Laban route in Rajasthan.

Features of the Vande Bharat Sleeper Train

The Vande Bharat sleeper trains are equipped with state-of-the-art features including automatic doors, comfortable berths, internet connectivity, and an aeronautical-inspired design. They also boast advanced safety features like the KAVACH train collision avoidance system, EN standard-compliant carbody, and fire safety compliance adhering to EN-45545 HL3 standards.

With 136 Vande Bharat AC chair car trains already operating across India, the introduction of the sleeper variant is set to offer passengers superior long-distance journeys on routes such as Kashmir to Kanyakumari, Delhi to Mumbai, and Howrah to Chennai, significantly reducing travel times.
