Unemployment Rate in Germany Rises
The Federal Employment Agency (Bundesagentur fuer Arbeit) has reported a slight increase in Germany's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate, which stood at 6% in December. This marks a 0.1 percentage point rise from the previous month.
Monthly and Annual Unemployment Figures
In December, the number of unemployed individuals in Germany reached 2,807,000, showing an increase of 33,000 from November and a significant rise of 170,000 compared to December 2023. On a seasonally adjusted basis, unemployment saw a monthly increase of 10,000.
Underemployment Also on the Rise
Underemployment, which includes those unable to work due to labor market policies or short-term work incapacity, also experienced an uptick. It rose by 29,000 from the previous month and by 103,000 from the same month in the previous year, totaling 3,581,000 in December.
