The National Stock Exchange (NSE) of India has reported a significant upsurge in its market capitalization, reaching an impressive $5.13 trillion by the end of 2024. This marks a 21.5% increase from the previous year, showcasing the robust growth of the Indian stock market.

Listings and IPOs: A Year of Records

With a total of 2,671 companies listed on the NSE by December 31, 2024, the exchange has seen a notable increase from 2,527 in 2023. The year was also marked by a record-breaking Rs 1.67 lakh crore raised through Initial Public Offerings (IPOs), with Hyundai Motor India Ltd leading the pack with a Rs 27,859 crore IPO.

Investor Participation and Index Performance

Investor numbers surged by 27.2%, reaching 10.9 crore by the end of the year. The Nifty 50 index recorded an 8.8% gain, while the Nifty Next 50 saw the highest growth at 27.4%. The market capitalization to GDP ratio also saw a significant increase, reflecting the strong performance of the domestic equity markets.

Global Standing and Future Prospects

On the global stage, the NSE has solidified its position, ranking 4th in terms of market capitalization and leading in equity derivatives. With advancements in the municipal bond and social impact sectors, the NSE continues to pave the way for a dynamic and inclusive financial ecosystem.
