European Markets Experience a Rocky Start to the Year-End Session
As the final trading day of 2024 commenced, major European stock markets found themselves in the red, mirroring the downward trend observed on Wall Street the previous day. Investors were particularly focused on the latest report concerning Spanish inflation, which revealed an increase from 2.4% in November to 2.8% in December.
Market Movements and Currency Fluctuations
The FTSE saw a decline of 0.38% at the opening bell, while the CAC 40 wasn't far behind, losing 0.36%. Notably, the DAX and the Euro Stoxx 50 remained closed in observance of New Year's Eve. On the currency front, the euro appreciated by 0.12% against the dollar, trading at $1.04118 by 8:58 am CET. Similarly, the pound experienced a slight uptick of 0.11% against the dollar, reaching $1.25601 a minute later.
