IndiGo's Latest Venture: Bridging Chennai and Penang
IndiGo, India's leading carrier, has proudly announced the launch of its new daily direct flights connecting Chennai and Penang. This marks the airline's 37th international destination and its third in Malaysia, following Kuala Lumpur and Langkawi. The initiative aims to cater to the increasing travel demands while fostering cultural exchange and economic growth between the two regions.
Vinay Malhotra, Head of Global Sales at IndiGo, expressed his enthusiasm about the expansion, highlighting the strategic importance of the new route. "With the inclusion of these flights to Penang, IndiGo will now operate 28 weekly flights to Malaysia from two cities in India. The recent visa waiver for Indian citizens is expected to significantly boost demand, making travel more accessible for both business and leisure travelers," Malhotra stated.
Enhanced Accessibility and Reduced Journey Times
The direct connection between Chennai and Penang promises enhanced accessibility and substantially reduced journey times. Chennai, serving as a crucial hub, will facilitate easier travel for passengers from Bengaluru, Delhi, Kolkata, and Mumbai to Penang. Known for its diverse culinary offerings, coastal attractions, and cultural significance, Penang is a treasure trove of artistic expressions, historical architecture, natural landscapes, and coastal areas.
Domestic Expansion: Puducherry Joins IndiGo's Network
In addition to its international expansion, IndiGo has also initiated operations from Puducherry, marking its 89th domestic destination. The airline has established daily direct flights between Bengaluru-Puducherry and Puducherry-Hyderabad, further strengthening its domestic network. Puducherry, celebrated for its coastal beauty, French heritage, and spiritual centres, is poised to attract a large number of tourists seeking the serene beaches, French colonial architecture, and peaceful cafes.
Bookings for these new flights are now open on IndiGo's official website and mobile application, offering travelers enhanced connectivity options both domestically and internationally.
