Albanian Government Announces TikTok Ban Starting 2025
The Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama, has recently announced a nationwide ban on the TikTok app, set to commence in early 2025 and last for at least one year, as reported by AFP.
This decision has been made in response to growing concerns about TikTok's impact on education and the well-being of children. Rama referred to TikTok as a 'harmful influence' and even went as far as calling it 'the thug of the neighborhood'.
This move aligns with the increasing global scrutiny of TikTok. Notably, in the United States, the Supreme Court is set to hear arguments on January 10 regarding an appeal by TikTok and its parent company, ByteDance, to delay a regulation requiring the app's sale or ban by January 19.
