Vietnam's Golden Route

The Hanoi-Ho Chi Minh City route, often referred to as the "golden" route by the Vietnamese aviation industry, has retained its position as the world's 4th busiest domestic air route in 2024. Despite a 2% decrease in available seats to 10.63 million this year, the over-1,000-km sector has consistently featured among the top 10 globally since 2017.

Five carriers, including Vietnam Airlines, Vietjet, Bamboo Airways, Pacific Airlines, and Vietravel Airlines, operate on this route, offering numerous flights throughout the day. Data from the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam indicates that over nine million passengers utilized this route last year, accounting for 22% of total domestic air traffic.

Global and Regional Comparisons

Globally, the top five domestic routes remained unchanged from the previous year. South Korea's Jeju-Seoul Gimpo route led with 14.18 million seats, followed by Japan's Sapporo-Tokyo Haneda and Fukuoka-Tokyo Haneda routes. Australia's Melbourne-Sydney route ranked 5th with 9.2 million seats.

International Routes: Hong Kong-Taipei surged to the top of the international routes with 6.7 million seats, a 45% increase from last year. Cairo-Jeddah maintained its second position, followed by Seoul Incheon-Tokyo Narita and Kuala Lumpur-Singapore routes.
