MRPL Commissions New Bitumen Production Unit
Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) has announced the commissioning of a new bitumen production unit, utilizing cutting-edge 'Biturox' technology from an Austrian firm. This strategic move is set to double MRPL's bitumen production capacity to 150,000 metric tonnes annually, positioning the company as a significant player in India's highway development sector.
The newly commissioned unit, engineered by Engineers India Limited (EIL), is designed to produce premium VG40 bitumen consistently, with the flexibility to manufacture VG30 and other grades to meet diverse industry needs. MRPL's expansion initiative, undertaken in 2022, aims to address India's reliance on imported bitumen, contributing to the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
Located in Mangaluru, the facility is expected to cater to the growing demands of the road construction industry, reduce dependency on imports, and support the development of resilient infrastructure across the country. MRPL's Executive Director (Projects), BHV Prasad, emphasized the unit's role in enabling durable and sustainable road networks, highlighting its significance in India's progress.
