PAN 2.0: Enhanced Features and New Scams
The Modi government has approved the PAN 2.0 project, offering PAN cards with advanced features like secure data storage and unified PAN/TAN services. However, fraudsters are now targeting PAN card holders with deceptive schemes, promising new PAN cards under PAN 2.0. It's essential to understand how to safeguard yourself from these fraudulent practices.
Your current PAN card remains valid even after the launch of PAN 2.0. A new PAN card is only necessary when updating personal details such as name or birth date. For domestic deliveries, a physical card costs Rs 50, while international deliveries cost Rs 15 plus shipping charges.
Beware of Fraudulent Schemes
Exercise caution if you are contacted about mandatory PAN card upgrades or expedited processing for a fee. The UP cyber cell advises against sharing account details or OTPs. Avoid engaging with suspicious links, calls, messages, or emails regarding PAN 2.0 upgrades.
Official information about PAN 2.0 is available on the Income Tax department's website. For PAN card reprints, use only authorized service providers: Protean (formerly NSDL) or UTIITSL. These are the sole entities approved by the income tax department for issuing physical PAN cards.
Reporting and Complaint Lodging
If you want to lodge a complaint, contact the National Cyber Crime Helpline at 1930 or visit the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal's official website. It is advisable to submit your grievance immediately following a scam incident. Ensure you preserve all evidence, including call records, text messages, emails, and any other exchanges with the fraudster, as these will serve as crucial documentation during the investigation.
