Meloni: Italy's Government to Stay Neutral in Stellantis Leadership Talks

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni Announces Government's Neutrality in Stellantis Leadership Talks

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni stated on Monday that the government does not want to engage in the ongoing management changes at Stellantis NV as the carmaker announced the immediate departure of its now-former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Carlos Tavares.

Speaking on the Quarta Repubblica television program, Meloni announced the government's meeting with Stellantis on December 17, which she said will hopefully be "decisive." She stressed the significance of the company for Italy's automotive sector and, hence, the agreement between it and the state on the protection of jobs and the stability of supply chains.

Commenting more on Tavares, Meloni said Stellantis Chairman John Elkann informed her of the news. She did not elaborate on the conversation but expressed her belief the former CEO's departure could be linked to "some very strong union battles," especially in France and the United States.
