Following backlash from the White House, Amazon has clarified that it never intended to display import duties on its main shopping site. This statement came after White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt criticized the potential move as a "hostile and political action."

A spokesperson for Amazon explained to The Washington Post that the consideration to show import charges was only for Amazon Haul, its discount storefront, and not for the main Amazon site. "This was never a consideration for the main Amazon site and nothing has been implemented on any Amazon properties," the spokesperson emphasized.
