In a remarkable turn of events, the United Kingdom's retail sales volumes witnessed a 2.6% increase in March compared to the same period last year, as reported by the Office for National Statistics. This growth notably surpassed the expectations set by financial analysts.

Monthly and Quarterly Sales Figures Show Positive Trends

Breaking down the figures, March saw a 0.4% rise in sales on a monthly basis. Notably, the textile, clothing, and footwear sectors enjoyed a substantial 3.7% surge, while non-food stores saw a 2.4% increase. However, it wasn't all positive news, as food store sales experienced a slight decline of 1.3%.

Looking at the broader picture, the three months leading up to March 2025 showcased a 1.6% quarter-on-quarter growth in sales volumes, alongside a 1.7% year-on-year increase.
