First Quarter Financial Performance

American Airlines Inc. unveiled its first-quarter earnings for 2024, revealing a marginal revenue decline of 0.2% to $12.6 billion compared to the same period last year. The airline also reported a net loss of $473 million, a significant increase from the $312 million loss recorded a year earlier. The diluted loss per share stood at $0.72, up from $0.48.

Future Outlook and Strategic Confidence

Looking ahead to the second quarter, American Airlines anticipates an EPS range between $0.50 and $1.00. However, the company has decided to withdraw its full-year guidance, citing the need for a clearer economic outlook before making such projections.

CEO Robert Isom expressed confidence in the airline's resilience and strategic investments, stating, "The resiliency of the American Airlines team, combined with the investments we have made to differentiate our network, product, and customer experience, give us extreme confidence in our ability to navigate the current environment and deliver strong results for the long term." Following the earnings release, the company's shares experienced a slight downturn, closing at $9.31, down by 0.11%.
