American Airlines Inc. unveiled its first-quarter earnings for 2024, revealing a slight revenue decline to $12.6 billion, a 0.2% decrease from the same period last year. The airline also reported a net loss of $473 million, widening from a $312 million loss in the previous year's quarter.

Per Share Loss and Future Outlook

The diluted loss per share stood at $0.72, compared to $0.48 a year ago. Looking ahead to the second quarter, American Airlines anticipates its EPS to range between $0.50 and $1.00. Notably, the company has decided to withdraw its full-year guidance, citing the need for a clearer economic outlook before making such projections.

Leadership Confidence Amid Challenges

CEO Robert Isom expressed confidence in the airline's resilience and strategic investments, stating, "The resiliency of the American Airlines team, combined with the investments we have made to differentiate our network, product, and customer experience, give us extreme confidence in our ability to navigate the current environment and deliver strong results for the long term." Following the earnings release, the company's shares slightly declined by 0.11%, trading at $9.31 each.
