In an unexpected turn of events, new single-family home sales in the United States jumped by 7.4% in March compared to February, reaching a total of 724,000 units, as reported by the Census Bureau on Wednesday. This marks a 6% increase from the same period in 2024, showcasing a robust recovery in the housing market.
Inventory and Pricing Trends
The end of March saw 503,000 new houses available for sale, a slight increase of 0.6% from February and a 7.9% rise compared to the previous year. This inventory level represents an 8.3-month supply at the current sales rate. Notably, the median sale price experienced a decline, standing at $403,600, which is 1.9% lower than February's figures and 7.5% less than in March 2025.
