Google Faces £5 Billion Lawsuit in UK Over Alleged Search Market Monopoly Abuse

Google's Dominance Under Legal Scrutiny in the UK

In a significant legal challenge, Google is being sued for £5 billion in the United Kingdom. The lawsuit, filed on Wednesday, accuses the tech behemoth of maintaining "near-total dominance" in the online search market, thereby stifling competition.

Allegations of Market Abuse

The UK Competition Appeal Tribunal has highlighted concerns over Google's alleged abuse of its dominant position. The lawsuit argues that Google's practices have unfairly restricted the growth of viable competitors in the search market.

A Collective Stand Against Google

Representing hundreds of thousands of UK-based organizations, Associate Professor of Competition Law and Policy at the University of Leeds, Or Brook, is leading the charge. "This class action is about holding Google accountable for its unlawful practices and seeking compensation on behalf of UK advertisers who have been overcharged," Brook stated.
