Scania Powers Up: VW's Truckmaker Acquires Northvolt's Battery Systems to Electrify Heavy Industry

Scania's Strategic Acquisition

In a bold move to bolster its electrification capabilities, Volkswagen AG's Scania has announced the acquisition of Northvolt Systems Industrial unit. This strategic purchase includes production facilities, a data and research center, and brings nearly 260 skilled employees into Scania's fold.

Enhancing Electrification Solutions

The acquisition is set to enhance Scania Power Solutions' modular approach, leveraging Northvolt's expertise in battery technology and assembly. "This partnership marks a significant step forward in our mission to develop complete electrified solutions for off-road applications," said Sara Hermansson, head of Scania Power Solutions.

A New Chapter for Northvolt

This deal comes on the heels of Northvolt's financial struggles, including bankruptcy filings in Sweden and Chapter 11 protection in the United States. Despite these challenges, Northvolt's industrial division emerges as a key player in Scania's future electrification efforts.
