No Tax Increases on Working People, Reeves Assures

In a firm commitment to the promises made in the Labour manifesto before the 2024 general election, British Chancellor Rachel Reeves has vowed not to raise income tax, value-added tax (VAT), or National Insurance. This announcement comes amidst significant budget adjustments and welfare spending cuts.
Addressing the Fiscal Challenges
"Even when faced with the necessity to adjust taxes in the last Budget to address the fiscal gap left by the Conservatives, we ensured that working people were not burdened with additional taxes," Reeves explained in an interview with the Huffington Post. The Labour government's approach has included substantial reductions in welfare spending, coinciding with the Office for Budget Responsibility's revision of the 2025 growth forecast from 2% to 1%.
