Market Reacts to Tariff Pause Announcement
The yield on the 30-year US Treasury bond experienced a significant rise on Thursday, increasing by over 10 basis points. This movement occurred as the financial markets began to digest President Donald Trump's recent announcement regarding a 90-day halt on reciprocal tariffs, aimed at reducing trade tensions between major economies.
Volatility Persists in Bond Markets
Despite the temporary relief provided by the tariff pause, the bond markets continued to exhibit volatility. This follows a notable selloff that took place on Wednesday. However, a stronger-than-anticipated 10-year Treasury auction offered some reassurance to investors, albeit with a lingering sense of caution. The yield on the long bond fluctuated widely throughout the day, starting at 4.735% and peaking at 4.893%.
Current Yield Figures
As of 11:53 am ET, the 10-year Treasury yield saw a modest increase of 2.3 basis points, reaching 4.379%, while the 30-year yield jumped by 11.2 basis points to 4.847%.
