
February Sees a Notable Increase in German Trade Surplus
Germany's trade surplus experienced a significant rise to €17.7 billion in February, up from €16.2 billion in January, according to the Federal Statistical Office Destatis. However, this figure marks a decrease from €22.6 billion in February 2024 and fell short of analysts' expectations.
Exports and Imports Show Mixed Trends
On a seasonally adjusted basis, goods exports reached €131.6 billion, showing a 1.8% increase month-on-month and a slight 0.1% rise year-on-year. Imports, on the other hand, totaled €113.8 billion, with a 0.7% monthly increase and a more substantial 4.6% annual growth.
Trade Dynamics Within and Outside the EU
Exports to EU countries saw a modest 0.5% monthly increase to €70.2 billion, while imports jumped by 2.3% to €58.6 billion. Conversely, exports to non-EU countries grew by 3.2% to €61.4 billion, with imports decreasing by 1% to €55.2 billion.
