Eurozone Producer Prices Experience Modest Growth
The producer price index (PPI) in the euro area witnessed a slight increase of 0.2% in February compared to the previous month, as per the preliminary report released by Eurostat on Thursday. This upward trend was mirrored in the broader European Union, where prices saw a 0.3% rise month-on-month.
Year-on-Year Comparison Shows Significant Growth
When compared to February 2024, the PPI in the Eurozone and the EU grew by 3% and 3.1%, respectively, highlighting a steady climb in producer prices over the year.
Sector-Wise Breakdown of Price Changes
The most notable monthly price increase within the euro area was observed in intermediate goods, which rose by 0.4%. This was followed by energy and capital goods, both at 0.2%, and non-durable consumer goods at 0.1%. In contrast, the prices of durable consumer goods experienced a slight decrease of 0.1%.
On a year-on-year basis, energy prices surged by 7.4%, marking the highest increase among all sectors. Non-durable consumer goods, capital goods, and intermediate and durable consumer goods also saw rises of 1.7%, 1.6%, and 0.9%, respectively.
