Following the announcement of new tariffs by United States President Donald Trump, major stock indexes across the Asia-Pacific region experienced notable declines. The tariffs, which include a 34% levy on China and a 24% on Japan, have stirred concerns among investors and market analysts alike.
Market Performance Across the Region
Japan's Nikkei 225 saw a significant drop of 2.80%, while Hong Kong's Hang Seng and South Korea's Kospi decreased by 1.51% and 1.29%, respectively. In mainland China, the Shanghai Composite remained stable, but the Shenzhen Composite shrank by 0.67%. Australia's S&P/ASX 200 also fell by 1.13%.
