Sheinbaum's Stance on USMCA Tariff Pause
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum expressed her hope on Tuesday that the tariff pause under the USMCA (United States–Mexico–Canada Agreement) would continue beyond Wednesday. This comes as the US administration is expected to announce new tariffs.
Mexico's Response Strategy
During her daily press conference, Sheinbaum was questioned about Mexico's potential alignment with countries like China, Japan, and South Korea in responding to US tariff moves. She emphasized that her government would not react immediately to the announcements but would take action on Thursday or Friday.

Sheinbaum highlighted that most cars produced in Mexico are for export, while many sold domestically originate from China. She suggested that low-cost cars could be manufactured in Mexico as an alternative to imports from China.
Migration Policies Coordination
Addressing stricter migration policies requested by Washington on the Guatemala border, Sheinbaum stated, "We coordinate, but we do not subordinate ourselves."
