French Economy Minister Criticizes US Tariffs as Harmful and Uncooperative Move

French Minister Slams US Tariffs

France's Minister of the Economy, Finance, and Industry, Eric Lombard, has openly criticized the United States for its recent imposition of tariffs on European automakers. During an interview with France Inter, Lombard described the move as damaging and counterproductive, emphasizing the need for cooperation over confrontation in resolving trade disputes.

Retaliatory Measures on the Horizon

Lombard confirmed that the European Union is in the process of preparing retaliatory tariffs on US goods. The European Commission is currently finalizing a targeted list, signaling a strong response to protect European interests. Despite this, Lombard expressed hope for a swift resolution to avoid a prolonged trade war that could harm both economies.

A Call for Cooperation

The minister framed the current trade tensions as a critical juncture, urging both sides to recognize the futility of aggression. "Very bad news and an uncooperative act," Lombard remarked, highlighting the importance of dialogue and mutual understanding in navigating the complexities of international trade.
