French Minister Slams US Tariffs as 'Uncooperative Act'

France's Minister of the Economy, Finance, and Industry, Eric Lombard, has openly criticized the recent US tariffs on European automakers, labeling them as a damaging and counterproductive move. In a recent interview with France Inter, Lombard expressed his concerns over the escalating trade tensions between the US and the European Union.

He emphasized that such measures would not only harm the European economy but also negatively impact the US economy. Lombard advocated for cooperation over confrontation, stating, "Very bad news and an uncooperative act," in reference to the US tariffs.

The minister also revealed that the EU is in the process of preparing retaliatory tariffs on US goods, with the European Commission currently finalizing a targeted list. Despite these preparations, Lombard remains hopeful that both sides will soon realize the futility of a prolonged trade war.

Lombard framed the current situation as a critical choice between passively accepting further aggression or taking a measured response to defend European interests. His statements highlight the growing tensions and the urgent need for dialogue to resolve the ongoing trade disputes.
