UK's Bold £10B Lower Thames Crossing Project Gets Green Light to Revolutionize Regional Transport

UK Approves Major Infrastructure Project

The United Kingdom's Secretary of State for Transport has officially approved the development of the Lower Thames Crossing, a groundbreaking project aimed at transforming regional transport infrastructure.

Project Details and Benefits

Spanning 14.5 miles (23km), the new crossing will connect Kent, Thurrock, and Essex through two state-of-the-art tunnels under the River Thames. Designed to ease the notorious congestion at the Dartford Crossing, which currently handles up to 180,000 vehicles daily, the tunnels will feature three lanes each, operating at a speed limit of 70mph.

Economic Impact and Investment

With over £1.2 billion already invested in planning and consultation, the total cost of the project is estimated at nearly £10 billion. This ambitious initiative is expected to significantly boost regional economic growth while providing much-needed relief from traffic congestion.
