Apple's Major Investment in China's Clean Energy Future
In a significant move towards sustainability, Apple Inc. has announced a substantial investment of 720 million yuan (approximately $100 million) into a clean energy fund in China. This initiative was revealed by CEO Tim Cook through a post on Weibo, underscoring the tech giant's commitment to renewable energy.
Ambitious Renewable Energy Goals
Cook highlighted that two-thirds of Apple's supply chain in China already operates on renewable energy. This new fund is a step forward in achieving the company's ambitious goal of running entirely on renewable energy by 2030. The fund is expected to significantly contribute to China's renewable energy capacity, adding around 550,000 megawatt-hours of wind and solar energy to the grid annually.
Building on Past Success
This investment builds upon the foundation laid by the first China Clean Energy Fund initiated in 2018. Apple's COO, Jeff Williams, expressed pride in deepening collaboration with Chinese suppliers to drive innovation in smart and green manufacturing. This partnership reflects Apple's ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability and innovation in China.
