In a bold move to modernize its fleet and enhance its competitive edge, Air India is reportedly in discussions to acquire 30 to 40 new wide-body jets from aerospace giants Airbus and Boeing. This initiative is part of the airline's transformation strategy under the stewardship of the Tata Group.

Details of the Potential Deal

The negotiations are focused on the Airbus A350 and Boeing 777X models, with the possibility of the order exceeding 50 aircraft. Industry sources suggest that more details will emerge closer to the Paris Air Show in June. This potential acquisition follows Air India's significant 2023 order for 470 aircraft from both manufacturers, supplemented by an additional 100 Airbus aircraft last year, primarily single-aisle planes.
