Santander UK's Strategic Overhaul: A Closer Look

In a significant move to streamline operations, Santander UK has announced plans to potentially lay off 750 employees. This decision comes as part of a broader strategy to close 95 additional branches, reshaping its network to better meet the evolving needs of its customers.

"The decision to close any branch is never taken lightly. We are committed to thoroughly evaluating the impact on our customers and exploring every avenue to mitigate it," a spokesperson from Santander UK explained to CNBC.

By June 2025, Santander UK aims to operate a network of 349 branches. This will include 290 full-service branches, alongside 36 with reduced hours, 18 without counters, and 5 Work Cafes, marking a pivotal step in the bank's journey towards modernization.
