Engaging with the US to Enhance Trade Relations
Amidst the backdrop of US President Donald Trump's tariff threats, India is actively engaging with the United States to explore avenues for increasing trade and addressing mutual concerns. Commerce Secretary Sunil Barthwal emphasized the commitment to elevate the bilateral trade volume from the current $200 billion to over $500 billion. "All necessary measures to strengthen trade ties will be discussed bilaterally with the US," Barthwal stated.
He further added, "Positive discussions are ongoing, and we are addressing all issues proactively. Concerns from both sides, as well as mutual concerns, are being thoroughly discussed."

EEPC India chairman Pankaj Chadha expressed concerns over the significant shift in US trade policy, stating, "The big shift in US trade policy threatens to negatively impact global trade."
Barthwal also mentioned that the Indian government is carefully evaluating the opportunities and challenges arising from US tariffs and is conducting stakeholder consultations to navigate through these developments.
