Project Overview
Scheduled for completion by 2030, this expansive project in Can Gio District will span 2,870 hectares. Can Gio, located 50 kilometers southeast of HCMC's downtown, is the city’s sole coastal district.
Vision for the Future
The envisioned urban area is set to become a hub for coastal tourism, resorts, smart city technologies, high-tech services, residential areas, and hotels. Upon completion, it is expected to accommodate 230,000 residents and attract nine million tourists annually.
Current Progress and Future Plans
While the project has received approvals for its zoning plan, environmental impact assessment, and feasibility study, it awaits further licenses. Additionally, Vingroup has sought permission for a subsidiary to develop a tourism plan for the area.
Government's Role and Vision
The government envisions transforming Can Gio into an ecological city, preserving its biosphere reserve while fostering maritime economy growth, including a transshipment port, free-trade zone, logistics, tourism, marine ecotourism, and renewable energy sectors.
HCMC is also planning to construct the Can Gio International Transshipment Port, with an estimated cost of around $6 billion.
