Canada Strikes Back: Imposes Retaliatory Tariffs on US Goods Amid Trade Tensions

Canada Takes a Stand Against US Tariffs

In a bold move to counter the Trump administration's trade measures, the Canadian government has announced the imposition of tariffs on US goods. Effective from March 13, a 25% tariff will be applied to $20.7 billion worth of American products, notably including steel and aluminum.

Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly, pictured, emphasized the strength of the US-Canada relationship, describing Canada as the US' "best friend, best neighbour and best ally." She firmly stated that Canada has "done nothing to justify Trump’s attacks on our country" and is prepared to stand its ground. Joly also mentioned plans to coordinate responses with European nations, signaling a united front against US trade policies.
