Trump Slashes Canadian Potash Tariffs: A Boost for US Farmers and Trade Relations

United States Eases Trade Tensions with Canada Over Potash Tariffs

In a significant move aimed at easing trade tensions and supporting American farmers, President Donald Trump has announced a reduction in tariffs on Canadian potash, a crucial ingredient in fertilizers. The tariffs have been decreased from 25% to 10% for imports not covered under the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), as detailed in a recent Federal Register notice.

This decision comes on the heels of another executive order by President Trump, which temporarily halts tariffs on select goods from Canada and Mexico until April 2. Canada, being the world's largest producer and exporter of potash, with vast reserves of approximately 1.1 billion tonnes, plays a pivotal role in the global fertilizer market.
