NHAI Takes Action Against False FASTag Deductions: What You Need to Know

Understanding the Issue with FASTag Wallet Deductions

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has recently implemented strict measures to combat incorrect FASTag wallet deductions. This comes in response to numerous reports from FASTag users who have been receiving toll deduction messages even when their vehicles were not in use or hadn't passed through toll plazas.

How NHAI is Addressing the Problem

In an effort to rectify these issues, the Indian Highways Management Company Limited (IHMCL), the toll management body of NHAI, has started imposing a hefty fine of Rs 1 lakh per violation on toll operators responsible for these errors. This significant penalty has led to a 70% reduction in such incidents, showcasing the effectiveness of the measures taken.

What FASTag Users Should Do

FASTag users who encounter false toll deductions are encouraged to file complaints by calling 1033 or emailing [email protected]. Each complaint is thoroughly investigated, and if found legitimate, chargebacks are issued to the customer immediately. Additionally, the toll operator responsible for the error is penalized.

The Role of FASTag in Modern Toll Collection

FASTag, a rechargeable, prepaid tag utilizing RFID technology, has revolutionized toll payments across India. It allows vehicles to pass through toll gates without stopping, facilitating automatic toll fee deductions from a connected prepaid account. This system has significantly reduced queue times, decreased fuel usage, and minimized person-to-person contact at toll booths.
