On a monthly basis, the retail trade turnover saw a modest rise of 0.2%, indicating a steady growth in consumer spending.

Nominal Terms Analysis

When looking at nominal terms, retail sales showcased a significant jump of 3.8% on an annual basis, with a slight increase of 0.1% compared to the previous month.

Food and Non-Food Retail Insights

Food retail sales in January showed a 1.5% increase month-on-month and a 0.6% rise year-on-year in real terms. Conversely, non-food retail trade experienced a minor decline of 0.2% compared to December but saw a substantial 3.7% increase compared to January 2024.
