Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla Inc. and Space Exploration Technologies Corp. (SpaceX), revealed on Thursday that Starlink, the satellite internet constellation, is being deployed at no cost to taxpayers to urgently restore air traffic control connectivity. This move comes in response to the rapid deterioration of the Verizon communication system, which has been deemed by the FAA to be on the brink of catastrophic failure within a matter of months, posing a significant risk to air traveler safety.

Musk's announcement was made in reaction to reports that the FAA is considering suspending its $2.4 billion contract with Verizon Communications Inc. due to dissatisfaction with its air traffic control services, with plans to replace it with Starlink.
