Meta and UNESCO Collaborate to Revolutionize AI Translation for Underserved Languages

Meta and UNESCO Join Forces for AI Translation Breakthrough

Meta Platforms Inc. has announced a groundbreaking collaboration with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to develop advanced machine intelligence (AMI) capable of human-like reasoning for tasks such as translation. This initiative aims to enhance AI models for languages that are currently underserved in the digital realm.

Call for Partners: The Language Technology Partner Program

Meta is inviting partners to join its Language Technology Partner Program. Participants are expected to contribute over 10 hours of speech recordings along with transcriptions, more than 200 sentences of written text, and sets of sentences translated into multiple languages. These linguistic resources will be integrated into AI models for speech recognition and machine translation, which will then be made open source and freely available to the public.

Open-Source Benchmark for Machine Translation

In addition to the Language Technology Partner Program, Meta has introduced an open-source benchmark for machine translation. This benchmark will evaluate AI translation models and will be accessible in seven languages, further advancing the field of AI translation technology.
