Amazon Faces Legal Setback in Germany Over Nokia Patent Infringement

Amazon Ordered to Cease Use of Nokia's Streaming Patent

In a significant legal ruling, the Duesseldorf Regional Court has declared that Amazon.com Inc. has infringed upon a patent owned by Nokia Corp. This decision, announced on Friday, mandates Amazon to discontinue the use of the patent in question, which is crucial for streaming services.

Nokia has expressed its satisfaction with the court's decision, urging Amazon to comply with the ruling by securing a license under fair terms. "We welcome the decision and hope that Amazon will fulfill its obligation and agree to a license on fair terms," stated Nokia in a communication to the German magazine Wirtschaftswoche. The Finnish technology giant initiated legal actions against Amazon in 2023 across Germany, the United Kingdom, and the European Union's Unified Patent Court.
