Trump's Strategy Against Drug Trafficking
In a decisive move to curb the flow of illegal drugs into the United States, President Donald Trump has announced a 25% tariff on all Mexican imports. This measure is aimed at pressuring Mexico to intensify its efforts in the fight against drug cartels, which are described by the White House as the primary sources of fentanyl, meth, and other dangerous substances entering the U.S.
White House's Stance
The White House has publicly stated that these tariffs are a necessary step to ensure Mexico's cooperation in combating the drug trade. "President Trump is implementing a 25 percent tariff to be paid for by Mexican producers until Mexico cooperates with the US in the fight against drugs," the statement read. It further accused Mexican cartels of forming alliances with the Mexican government, thereby posing a significant threat to the national security and public health of the United States.
