Budget 2025 Highlights for Tourism

The Ministry of Tourism's budget allocation for 2025-2026 has seen a significant increase to Rs 2,541.06 crore, focusing on upgrading infrastructure, enhancing travel experiences, and ensuring tourist safety. Key initiatives include promoting homestays, improving connectivity, and adding hotels in tourist areas to the harmonised infrastructure list for better financing access.

Employment and Skill Development

To foster employment-led growth, the government plans to establish hospitality management institutes and intensive skill development programs. States demonstrating effective destination management will receive performance-linked incentives.

International Tourism and Special Initiatives

Efforts to boost international tourism include streamlining e-visa facilities and introducing visa fee waivers for select groups. Special initiatives for spiritual and heritage tourism, particularly sites associated with Gautama Buddha’s life, will also be introduced.

Medical Tourism and Infrastructure Development

Medical tourism will be promoted under the 'Heal in India' initiative through public-private partnerships, capacity building, and relaxed visa norms. A significant portion of the budget is allocated to the Integrated Development of Tourism Circuits and the PRASHAD scheme to enhance spiritual and cultural tourism experiences.

Focus on Northeast and Jammu and Kashmir

The tourism ministry will focus on promoting India's diverse tourist destinations, especially in the Northeast and Jammu and Kashmir. International marketing campaigns will target key markets, and the government plans to set up representative offices in new markets to attract more international visitors.

The government has introduced the Safe Tourist Destination for Women scheme, funded by the Nirbhaya Fund, aimed at creating a secure environment for female tourists.
