ASML CEO Christophe Fouquet on the Future of AI Chip Demand
In a recent interview with CNBC, Christophe Fouquet, CEO of ASML, shared his insights on how the advent of low-cost AI models, such as China's DeepSeek R1, might unexpectedly boost the demand for AI chips. Contrary to the assumption that cheaper models would decrease demand, Fouquet believes these models could broaden the scope of AI applications, thereby increasing the need for advanced semiconductor technology in the long run.
"We see that as an opportunity for more chips demand," Fouquet stated, highlighting the potential for growth in the semiconductor industry. This perspective comes on the heels of ASML's impressive fourth-quarter performance, where the company reported €7.1 billion ($7.39 billion) in new orders, showcasing the robust demand for its cutting-edge extreme ultraviolet lithography machines used in chip production.
