Singapore's Cost-of-Living Support Scheme: 90% of Households Claim $220 Vouchers Amid Economic Challenges

Massive Uptake in Singapore's CDC Voucher Scheme

Over S$132 million worth of CDC vouchers have been utilized by Singaporean households, as reported by Low Yen Ling, Senior Minister of State for Culture, Community and Youth, and Trade and Industry. This initiative, part of a broader effort to alleviate the financial strain on citizens and local businesses, has seen a significant participation rate.

Supporting Local Businesses and Households

Launched on January 3, the sixth distribution of these vouchers aims to assist households in managing living costs and bolster hawkers and heartland merchants impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic. Valid until December 31, 2025, these vouchers offer flexibility, with half redeemable at participating hawker stalls and heartland merchants, and the remainder usable at supermarkets.

Expanding Merchant Participation

Approximately 23,000 merchants and eight supermarket chains, encompassing around 400 outlets, are part of this scheme. Additionally, several coffee shops have started accepting these vouchers, providing Singaporeans with more affordable dining options.

Reflecting on the Scheme's Success

"The growth and success of the CDC Vouchers Scheme reflect the vibrant collaboration between our participating merchants, dedicated partners, and passionate volunteers," Low remarked. The previous year saw around 97% of Singapore's 1.33 million households claim their vouchers, with a significant portion spent by the end of 2024.

Celebrating Singapore's Diamond Jubilee

This latest tranche of vouchers is among the first events in 2025 organized by the CDC to kick off the celebrations for Singapore's diamond jubilee, or SG60, marking the nation's 60th year of independence. Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong highlighted this at the launch, signaling a year of reflection and celebration for Singapore's achievements.
