EU Open to UK Joining Pan-Euro-Mediterranean Convention
In a significant development, European Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security, Maros Sefcovic, announced on Thursday that the European Union is contemplating the inclusion of the United Kingdom in the Pan-Euro-Mediterranean Convention (PEM). This convention encompasses not only the EU but also several non-member countries across Europe, the Middle East, and northern Africa.
However, Sefcovic emphasized during his interview with the BBC that the EU is awaiting a detailed proposal from the British government, which has yet to be clearly outlined. He further suggested that both parties should re-examine the post-Brexit veterinary agreement, advocating for the UK's adherence to EU regulations. "It's imperative that we operate under the same set of rules and simultaneously enhance them, a concept we refer to as dynamic alignment," Sefcovic explained.
