On Wednesday, the stock exchanges across the Asia-Pacific region presented a mixed picture, with Chinese indexes experiencing significant declines. This movement comes amidst the backdrop of President Donald Trump's return to office in the United States, stirring concerns among investors regarding future policy directions, especially towards China.

Index Performance Highlights

In mainland China, the Shanghai Composite saw a decrease of 0.91%, while the Shenzhen Composite dropped by 0.74%. The situation was similar in Hong Kong, where the Hang Seng index fell by 1.57%. However, not all news was grim; South Korea's Kospi Composite enjoyed a rise of 1.16%.

Meanwhile, Australia's S&P/ASX 200 and Japan's Nikkei 225 ended the day on a positive note, with gains of 0.33% and 1.59% respectively. The currency market also saw some movement, with the dollar trading 0.14% above the yen.
