EU Intensifies Investigation into Elon Musk's X Corp Under New Digital Services Act

European Commission Deepens Probe into X Corp's Compliance with DSA

In a significant move, the European Commission announced on Friday its decision to escalate the investigation into Elon Musk's X Corporation, scrutinizing its adherence to the Digital Services Act (DSA). This step underscores the EU's commitment to enforcing its digital legislation, ensuring a safe, fair, and democratic online space for all users within the bloc.

Henna Virkkunen, Executive Vice-President for Tech Sovereignty, Security, and Democracy, emphasized the importance of this investigation. "Our goal is to ensure that X's recommender systems are fully compliant with the DSA. We are determined to uphold our legislation to foster a secure and equitable digital environment," she stated.

Demands for Transparency and Documentation

The European Commission has formally requested X Corp to submit detailed internal documents concerning its recommender systems and any recent modifications. Additionally, a retention order has been issued, mandating the preservation of all relevant internal documents and information related to future changes in the design and functionality of its recommender algorithms from January 17 until December 31. The Commission also seeks access to X Corp's commercial APIs to further its investigation.
