IBC Sets Up Pioneering Giga Factory in Bengaluru
In a significant move towards bolstering India's green energy sector, the International Battery Company (IBC) is all set to commence production at its state-of-the-art 'Giga Factory Unit' in Bengaluru within the next nine months. With an investment of Rs 390 crore, this ambitious project is poised to create 300 direct employment opportunities, marking a new chapter in Karnataka's industrial landscape.
Global Ambitions with Local Roots
Minister for Large and Medium Industries, M B Patil, highlighted the unit's aim to export 20% of its production to the US and EU markets, showcasing Karnataka's high-quality manufacturing capabilities on a global stage. The groundbreaking ceremony for the unit, a collaborative effort with Mahanagar Gas Ltd, was held at the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) plot in the Information Technology Investment Region (ITIR).
Boosting Local Manufacturing and Skill Development
The first phase of investment will facilitate the local manufacture of lithium-ion cells, a first for India, aimed at producing battery packs for small mobility solutions like two-wheelers and three-wheelers. This project not only enhances advanced manufacturing capabilities but also focuses on skill development in Karnataka, with plans to expand into larger mobility applications in the future.
A Step Towards Sustainable and Inclusive Economy
Allocated 10 acres of land near the Foxconn unit, this pioneering initiative by IBC is expected to boost Karnataka's economy and reduce dependency on imports from China. The IBC Giga Factory is a landmark project in the green energy and advanced battery manufacturing sectors, aligning with Karnataka's vision for a tech-driven, sustainable, and inclusive economy.
"IBC's focus on lithium-ion battery production is critical to India's transition to renewable energy. It will enhance energy storage capabilities, contribute to a sustainable future, and integrate advanced engineering with clean energy solutions," said Minister Patil, emphasizing the project's role in fostering innovation and job creation.
